80 Bay was the first cafe I visited after I started working in Ultimo, also the one that I visited most frequently. I remember spending many lunch breaks studying for my PTC (Preliminary Theological Certificate) exams, day dreaming and escaping from my (occasionally) stressful work at this cosy place.
If you live in Australia and you are a coffee drinker, you won’t be a stranger to Toby’s Estate which has a reputation of good quality coffee. 80 Bay is a Toby Estate espresso bar opened in 2011. As the name suggests, it’s located on Bay Street opposite to the Broadway Shopping mall.
While many cafes in Australia have that big black and white logo hanging outside their shop front, meaning that they brew their coffee with Toby’s Estate coffee beans; reality is not all of the places can do it right. This one on 8o Bay is definitely one of those that will make people fall in love with Toby’s Estate. The interior is very homey and warm just like how the the cafe itself is; the staffs are always busy yet friendly. I dined in and bought take away coffees from this place from time to time and I totally loved the aroma and the fullness of their coffee.
My regularly food orders at 80 Bay were all pretty light and simple. As you scroll down and have a look at some of my favourites, you would notice that the cafe doesn’t only know how to do their coffees right but has also put in so much dedication to their savoury dishes too, even the simple dishes.
You might be surprised by what I’ve saved for the last – my favourite dish at 80 Bay is one that looks rather ordinary!
Like how people say fried rice is one of the most difficult Chinese dishes to cook; easy recipes are often the hardest ones to make wonderfully. The truffle salt and the goats cheese have together added so much more flavour to the eggs. It’s not as simple as it appears to be.
… 80 Bay is located on 80 Bay Street in Ultimo/ Broadway, opposite to the Broadway shopping mall. It is 10-15 minutes walk from the Central station if you are getting there by train.
