I thought of writing a blog post on The Grounds of Alexandria even before I went back to Sydney because I used to love this place a lot. This time I went there and took heaps of pictures, edited them, but somehow found it very hard to start writing about this place. Reason behind is that unlike other cafes that are just a cafe with a shop front and a few very easily instagramable dishes, the Grounds had been, and has become more of a large space as a combination of a cafe, a dining place, a farm and a market.
Though I really liked this place, I didn’t use to come here a lot. It’s hard to find parking around the Grounds and the cafe gets really crowded during the weekends. But it’s popular for a reason! The people who run this place are very good at creating the garden/ farm like environment which everyone loves.
This is the indoor section of the cafe that has a lot of seats but always full. We almost always bought our food and drinks as takeaways and took them outside to eat.
We came on a weekday this time so there were still plenty of seats in the outdoor area. I had “our signature avocado” – avocado, heirloon tomato, feta cheese, pomegranate, za’atar on soudough. There is no meat nor any expensive ingredients in the dish but as always they used the freshest produces and had skillfully selected the right seasoning and spice enhance the dish (I forgot to take a picture of miss koala’s cornflake chicken burger..)
Not far away from where we sat is the home of this piggy Kevin Bacon and his animal friends. Kevin used to be a piglet and has now grown a lot in size. You can get into the barn when a staff is around (if you are keen lol).
… The Grounds of Alexandria is at Shop 7A, 2 Huntley Street, Alexandria, Sydney. The best way to get to the Grounds is by car, where the closest train station from it is Green Square.
… The Potting Shed …
The Potting Shed is more of the bar and restaurant on the premise. Corresponding with the overall atmosphere of the Grounds, the Potting Shed is a semi-outdoor area filled with so much greenery Although I didn’t get to dine there, I met this new friend Fluffy at the entrance.
… Florals by Silva …
There are so much more to see on the premise just like this beautiful florist Florals by Silva. Just like the produces at the Grounds, Silva and her team source their flowers directly from Sydney farms four times a week.
… The Grounds Markets …
The Grounds markets is opened from 9:00am to 3:30pm every Saturday and Sunday. Explore the fresh local produces if you drop by at the weekend 🙂
