… Le Monde – the world as I see it …

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This time I visited Le Monde which was on the “slightly further from Central station” side of Surry Hills. Down to earth and cozy were the¬†words that I would use to describe this long standing cafe (I just found that they have been opened for over 20 years!)

The place feels like a local family owned little cafe to me; nothing fancy but warm and welcoming. It was quickly filled with people even though it was a weekday afternoon that we went.

I am not really a super matcha fan so I didn’t go for a matcha latte. Their coffee, being rich and delivious had lived up to my expectation. I would like to try their coconut espresso on my next visit.

… Lox, Stock & Barrel -brunch with mini EK …

During my last trip back to Sydney I met many of my old friends as well as some new friends ūüėÄ Mini EK is the cute little boy of my good friends Miss bonbon and EK. On this nice and cool day I went to Bondi beach for brunch with miss koala, miss bonbon and mini EK.

I had been to Lox. Stock & Barrel¬†a few years back¬†and¬†their bagel was most remarkable as I remembered. There’s a selection of bagels that you can choose from: plain, sesame, poppy seeds, onion and whole meal. Miss koala and I both picked poppy seeds bagels; mine was with smoked lox (salmon), onion, capers, rocket and cream cheese where miss koala had hers with jam and ricotta cheese.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

… The Grounds of Alexandria – long time no see Kevin Bacon! …

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I thought of writing a blog post on The Grounds of Alexandria even before I went back to Sydney because I used to love this place a lot. This time I went there and took heaps of pictures, edited them, but somehow found it very hard to start writing about this place. Reason behind is that unlike other cafes that are just a cafe with a shop front and a few very easily instagramable dishes, the Grounds had been, and has become more of a large space as a combination of a cafe, a dining place, a farm and a market.

… Brewtown Newtown – here for some cronuts …

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
One of my missions of this Sydney trip was to have a try of the trending cronuts that I’ve been seeing on instagram for a while. Cronut, as you might have guessed, is a hybrid of croissant & donut which is originated in New York. Like a donut, there is usually a hole in the middle of a cronut and just like a croissant there are countless flaky layers¬†in it.
I remember Brewtown Newtown was the place where Miss bonbon and her husband EK farewelled me before I left Sydney in 2014. The place hadn’t changed much since then, still very rustic. And even¬†cozier this time as¬†I came in the late afternoon at a less busy time.

… Haven tailoring coffee joyously – the Sydney gai daan jai place …

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

During my Sydney trip, I went to Surry Hills to meet my friends quite frequently. Surry Hills is just minutes away from Central and is indeed a treasure trove with heaps of good cafes and restaurants. This one, Haven is literally just across the road from the Chalmers Street exit of Central station.

… Breakfast with the Sakuma’s – when Devon Cafe is no longer 20 minutes away …

Almost everyone who visits Devon Cafe in Surry Hills will take one of these bird-eye view photos of the dishes there. Though a bit on the pricey side, Devon offers its customers a menu that is composed of many creative and heavenly tasteful Asian fusion dishes. Surry Hills is no longer 20 minutes away from home, but I still leave a pile of drool in front of my computer when I see pictures on the facebook page of Devon from time to time. I would really want to try their kaya cronuts if I have a chance to visit again! And by the way, their coffees are very nice too!
